Jacob Joseph Held is a director working in London and Bristol. Jacob has an award-winning filmography of short dramas and documentaries, and also directs for the stage.

Jacob's short films have explored themes of boyhood, magical realism, loss and grief. Notably, Reverie (2021) was a part of an exclusive BFI showcase and his most recent film Puddle Man (2025) won 'Best Drama' at the RTS.

Jacob's work in documentaries has included Six Weeks (2024), an experimental documentary following a case of teenage cancer, making the argument for creativity as a healer. Six Weeks has been shown in festivals across the UK and is now used in medical research at University College Hospital. Jacob's recent documentaries include Hunted (2025), an expose of illegal fox hunting in Somerset, and Gullible (2026), a comedy mockumentary about seagulls in Western-super-Mare.

Jacob's stage work includes directing a sold-out run of Fear and Misery in the Third Reich (1938) by Bertolt Brecht at the Pegg Theatre in February this year, as well as a modern adaptation of the same text, which will be performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival from the 16th to the 22nd at Greenside, George Street.

Although Jacob is at the beginning of his career he has already worked with multi-award-winning production companies such as Moonage Pictures, Mammoth Screen, Plimsoll Productions and Spun Gold.
